Occupation: Living on ...?

I'd be really grateful if anyone could tell me what the word following living on... says in this census entry and what it means if it is not clear. The man it refers to is 70 if this is a clue.

What date is this?I think it says on means,possibly The Means  Test,
whereby unemployed people could get a little relief but only after they had
sold almost all they had.
This would be the 1920’s and 30’s ,up to rearmament in 1939.
People did not always retire at 65,there was a pension but not much and I am not sure at what age and to whom.

I'd say it was Living On Own Means, only they've missed out "own".  Very common, meaning they had an income from an annuity, property, or the like.

I agree with Claire. Same as "Independent" often abbreviated to "Ind." in census enumerator's book.
I have a few of them on 1841 & 1851 census, mostly members of same family. Head of the family had retired from running a successful family business and invested the proceeds. His widow and unmarried daughters were "Ind." in census. The sons eventually went back to paid employment or became self-employed, presumably because the investment income was insufficient to support themselves and their wives & children or because the investments failed or they'd spent all their share.
A person living on own means didn't need to work to make a living.

At 70 years of age it could have been a pension.
