transcribing the links from the previous post

1860, Pleasant, Winnesheik County, Iowa
Post Office: Locust Lane [unless it is Socust Sane?]

George Blass, 37, born in France, farmer, $1240 Real estate, $240 personal estate
Mary Blass, 26, New York
John Blass, 13, born in Canada West, attended school
George Blass, 8, born in Canada West
Michael Blass, 7, Iowa
Catherine, 6, Iowa
Sarah, 4, Iowa
Mary 1, Iowa

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M821-7ZD

Question: is John, age 13, Mary's son? or is her age way off?

1862 Naturalization index record
George Blass
where: District Court, Winnesheik County, Decorah, Iowa
Volume and page: Volume 4 P-22
when: September 6, 1862
country of origin: France

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XKL6-Z4Y

this should be findable somewhere, with the volume and page number, even if it isn't online.

him, wife, and children, small tree at familysearch
says:
George 1823-1866
Maria 1835-deceased
children
George 1850
Michael 1853
Catherine 1855
Sarah 1858-1918
Mary Ann 1860-1943
Rebeckah 1861
Samuel B 1865-1945

so they have some info on 3 of the children, evidently, I didn't click through on them

this tree is worth looking at. either they have George's origin in Alsace, France, or have him confused with another man named John. Could his name have been John George? Alsace went back and forth between France and Germany for a while. Was he of German extraction and was John his baptismal name and George the name he used from day to day? They put the couple in the same county in Iowa, so if it isn't your man, then it is probably a relative and probably from the same place in France.

edited to add: and it would explain why George's wife Mary in 1860 is too young to be the mother of the first 2 children.
