Edgar Clyde Clegg bc 1904 NSW
« on: Thursday 07 February 19 11:11 GMT (UK) »
There seems to be some ongoing confusion about the above who was the son of John Clegg (1861-1930) and Mary Anne Harvey (1865-1905) and another Edgar Clegg bc 1883. According to trees on Anc Edgar C married Matilda Rose Hubbard c 1926 and passed away 1959 but I found him with a Gladys at Woonona in 1963. There is an obit on Anc for Matilda's passing 1952 Woonona showing 7 children. So I'm at confused.com?

This appears to be the parents of Edgar CLEGG who married Matilda Rose HUBBARD in 1907

I am guessing Anc is referring to Ancestry,  and I am wondering if the confusion you have found is on submitted trees or on the indexes that Ancestry has uploaded...

If it is from submitted trees,  have you checked with the tree owners  and/or your own contacts with your known shared ancestors.

Hi Cr,
I don't see the middle-name that CupOfLife quoted on the marriage on NSW BDM

1907/6237

Edgar CLEGG to Matilda R HUBBARD, at Woonona

I think it was just a typo by CupOfLife

Ros

adding : But it is obviously not your man if he was born c 1904

I have checked the death notice for the Gladys Jane CLEGG who died in 1974 but she was married to a William.

The 1943 Electoral Roll entry does NOT include any middle name for that Edgar, who was an engine-driver.  Many on that roll have two given names, some have three.  I see that Matilda Rose and Edgar were both enrolled at that same address back in 1930, and Edgar was without a second given name then too.

There is ONE submitted tree with bare minimum of information for an Elgar Clyde CLEGG, born 4 April 1904, Kempsey NSW, died 14 May 1959 Kempsey NSW … submitter has unknown father and unknown mother and unknown spouse for that Elgar Clyde CLEGG ….

And I note they have this person as ELGAR,  not as EDGAR.   ::)  ::)  ::)

NSW BDM online index has
BIRTHS
#13141/1904 (drills down to 4 April 1904)
Edgar C CLEGG
parents as John and Mary A,
registered Kempsey District

DEATHS
#14100/1959 (drills down to 14 May 1959)
Wilbert Cyril CLEGG
parents as John and Mary Ann
registered Kempsey District

It seems to me that the submitted tree owner has not been careful when checking the indexes and has not obtained actual official records before uploading to Ancestry.
