There are various Charles Swans born around 1821 in Kent.

When did he arrive in New Zealand?

Do you know the names of his children?

Presumably have you no information on his Father?

This is from a tree on Ancestry : not yet checked any of it, other than the baptism shows in local records:

Charles Swan
Father  Richard Swan  Mother Susanna Watts
Birth    1821 Hartlip Kent England
Death  04/1895 Bairnsdale Victoria Australia
Residence   New South Wales Australia

You have not said when your Charles died, and where,  is it the same man?

Thanks Chempat, the Charles you have is the same man. Details of death is accurate however as far as Im aware he did not reside in NSW. I have not found this on the ancestry site I am in. I will check other ones. He is a mystery as he supposedly married a Caroline Britnell in New Zealand yet there is no record of this. She married a John Garrett, with no divorce record.

Tree looks a mixture : Richard and second wife and 8 children arrive in 1835 in Australia, Charles arrives in 1835 in Australia via convict ship.

This is exciting, it sounds possible. I know Charles was born in England and have heard he was a convict. I did find he was sent to Aus due to his conviction. I have no info on his original family. I do have his children who were all born in NZ..

There's a baptism for a Charles Swan in Hartlip on 9th September 1821, son of Richard & Susanna.

It would be worth looking at assizes records and newspapers for any details of offence and place he was living.
