Have decided to go ahead and post the remainder of the gaps I need filling in from this LWT here instead of making a new post. If I should do otherwise, I'm sure someone will let me know. So here goes. Hoping you all will be as successful as you were in Part 1. Thanks again.

Louise

Louise,

I don't have time now to look closely at your second extract (going to bed).

However, I can see this:

...wood in Hornesside w(i)thin the lordshipp of Leasham...

I see there's a Levisham near Lockton.

Please note that, having seen the second extract, it is Hircomb in the first extract.

Aahhhha! Yes, Levisham is near Lockton and many BMDs took place there and in Lockton for this family. Also, my cousin was looking at the map and now that you have revised the other location to be Hircomb, she sees north of Lockton a "Hole of Horcom"...do you think that is what is being referenced?

That's well within the bounds of spelling variation at this time, so if no better candidate can be seen, I'd say it's most probably correct.

Louise,

Having worked on these, I can advise it will be easier for us if you arrange your postings like this:

1.  Post the original document extract as an image file rather than in a PDF.

2.  Post your transcript as part of the message section of the post.

3.  Arrange your transcript so that it follows the line breaks of the original text.

#1 and #2 make it easier to switch from one text flow to the other.

In the PDF I have to scroll in both dimensions and reset the zoom because the transcript text is so much bigger.

#3 makes it much easier to find the same place in both texts.

Not a complaint, just suggestions for next time...

Thanks. I will try to follow these suggestions. I wasn't sure what would be best. I know I can't submit the entire LWT due to copyright issues, so I was trying to submit the best image I could. I shall try a .jpg version. I thought that I was ending text in my transcription at the same point as the original, but perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention. Oh....I think I know what went wrong. My original was in landscape, but the one posted got changed to portrait, so the lines of text got "rearranged".

Also, on that location name previously discussed, a cousin in England also mentioned there is a location not far from Lockton called Harome west of Pickering which might also be a possibility.

So, thank you very much for your work on this LWT. I think you have all the gaps filled in that are important and I so appreciate it!!

I will be posting another will soon from this same family (or at least we think they are related). Stay tuned!!

Louise

P.S. Just one little bit more....what is the word in the attached sentence right before "containing herein..."

It's a standard contraction for:  testam(en)t

Regarding the place-name, I would say Horcom is much the better candidate because both contain the hard-c.

EDITED:

To remove typo.
