Missing Billington baptisms
« on: Tuesday 12 February 19 21:27 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I have hit a bit of a brick wall with my ancestor Charles Billington. He was born 1805/6 in Stoke on Trent. I cant find his baptism, but do know his mother was called Mary as she gave consent to his marriage to Hannah Forrester 1826 Stoke.
I have found two others i believe to be his siblings Anne born 1812 Stoke and James 1815 Stoke.
Anne married Ralph Stevenson and their son Levi married Charles's daughter Hannah (cousins).
James married Ann Pope and a Charles Billington was present for this.

I cant find baptisms for Anne or James either, and all show as being born in Stoke on the census'. Could this be non-conformists? I dont know what I am missing really.

Hope some one may be able to shed some light!

You could be right about them being non-conformists.  I don't think that they are on-line, and the registers (assuming they have been deposited) are mainly at Stoke on Trent City Archives, with some at Stafford Records Office as well.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Can you tell us the resources you have accessed with negative results? Family search & which pay sites? It may be as BB says, the parish records do not survive.

Hi, I have used family search and find my past to look for the baptisms.
All events post baptism are on there I.e. marriages, deaths, children’s families etc.

Are all the post baptism events you have found in the same church? Can you tell us which one?

The families baptisms for the next generation were at Bucknall church.
The stoke marriages were at St. Peter’s ad vincular.
