Looking for Masters family connections
« on: Wednesday 13 February 19 11:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi - my 1st post on RootsChat having just registered, so excuse me if I get any etiquette wrong!!  I'm trying to find out any details about the father and/or Mother of a William MASTERS.  I think William was born around 1824 in (I think) Stoke Climsland area and was married to Elizabeth WELLS (born c1836). They had 6 children - Francis George Masters, Thomas Masters, Eliza Masters, Charles (Henry?) Masters, William Masters & Emily Masters.
Thanks

Thanks Rosie99. Easington would be right as subsequent generations are all in Easington & Seaham. I had seen a reference to an "Elizabeth Coad" in my previous research but wasn't sure of the link to this family?  You mention "COAD, ELIZA  ANN     mmn WELLS".  As I'm relatively new to this, not sure what the "mmn" stands for??  WELLS is certainly right, but what's the link to COAD?

MMN is Mothers maiden name (Maiden surname)

Elizabeth who married William Masters married as Coad (not Wells), the daughter Eliza who is with the family in 1871 was registered as Coad not Masters.  You would need the birth certificate to see who is named as her father.

Really helpful Rosie99.  I'm wondering if maybe Elizabeth WELLS was previously married to someone called COAD, and that William MASTERS was her 2nd husband.  Will explore further re Birth Certificate.  Thanks again

The marriage image that I have linked to on familysearch between William Masters and Elizabeth Coad shows her as a widow.  That may or may not be true as sometimes women who have children by someone else prior to a marriage pretend they have been widowed.
