What happened to all these Harrisons?
« on: Wednesday 13 February 19 20:20 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to some great assistance on the Scottish board (http://www.rootschat.com/links/01ned/ ), I found out that my 5 x great grandfather, John Harrison (b. Yardley, Worcs. about 1775), enlisted as a soldier and served in Perthshire, where he married a local girl, Elizabeth Robertson.

They had five children in Perth:
Susanna   1801
John  1803
Robert  1805
Isobella  1808
Elizabeth  1810.

Then there are three more children born in Aston, Birmingham;
Margaret   1814  (my 4 x great grandmother)
Jane  1817
Thomas  1819.

So obviously they moved south between 1810 and 1814, when all the children were still very young.
My problem is that apart from John junior, I can't find any of the other Scotland-born children.  John married in Birmingham in 1825 and I can't believe that all the others died or were left behind as infants in Scotland.
The family didn't move from the Birmingham/Aston area so that's where I would expect to find a census record, a marriage, or something, but no luck.
Can anyone see what I am missing?
Thanks in advance.

The Scottish Harrison’s in Birmingham.

Isabella Harrison was a witness at John’s wedding in 1825.

Isabella Harrison    Married   30 Jun 1828   Birmingham, St Philip   John Manfield
Witness Elizabeth Harrison

More than one possible marriage for Elizabeth. No clear evidence would need to check.

Marriage in 1825 Aston Susannah Matilda Harrison?

Nothing for Robert yet?

Thank you for your interest :)

I do have the info about the children's mother and her marriage to John Harrison.
I don't think that you have found the right Susannah, unfortunately, as mine had no middle name and there is a Susannah Matilda baptized in Birmingham in 1805, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth.

But one down, anyway!
Many thanks

So I guess that the information on Isabella & Elizabeth was also incorrect?

Sorry, why do you think that?  It looks like you've found Isabella.  I can't see the Manfields on the census but I haven't had time for a good look yet.
And we know that in 1828  Elizabeth was still single.  As you say, tracing her is more complicated.  I haven't found a census entry in the area  for an Elizabeth born in Scotland.

Susannah and Robert  ??? No sign yet.
Thanks again for your help.

As you did not mention Isabella or Elizabeth I assumed that you did not agree.

I have had another look at Isabella's marriage in 1828 on A....y, I read John's name as Manfield, which seemed clear but I note it has been transcribed as Marefield, other records state Masfield.

The other thing I had not noticed Elizabeth signature marked X but there was a second witness who signed Harrison but sadly the first name is unreadable on the record.
