George Oxley

Would some one be able to check a Kent baptism for me please for a George Oxley bapt. 1841 possibly September , father David Oxley mother Harriet. I believe George was base born but I need an image of his baptism if possible or some alternative clarification.

How do you know that he was baptised - and where?

Did he survive to appear in any census?

Was his mother Harriet Dodge?  I see that Dodge is among your surname interests.

Harriet Dodge (28) and George Dodge (10) are in Benenden with her mother Rosena in 1851.

Harriet Dodge marr Richard Austen, Dec qtr 1853 Tenterden.

In 1861 George Dodge is with them.

What is the source for David Oxley as his natural father?

Thank you for your help which as you say you are going over old ground. What I would like is some clarification that George Dodge was base born where by an image of a Bishops transcript would prove it once and for all. I have a print out from a payed site of a transcription but a copy of the Bishops transcription would prove the transcript to be correct.

Have you been in touch with Kent FHS, who prepared the transcription you’ve got?

If they can’t help with the original baptism register then I suggest you ask for a lookup of the parish register (not Bishop’s transcript) giving the full details which you already have of George’s baptism: 12 September 1841 at Benenden, as George Oxley, baseborn son of David and Harriet (Dodge).

I will go to the Family History Centre on Monday to obtain a download of the baptism register which I believe you can only do by going to their library. One cannot gain access to these records on line at home according to their site.
