There is a tree on Ancestry with Fanny as Sarah's mother.
1861 she is a servant inLittle Wyrley Norton ,Cannock with Samuel and Ann Simkins 46 and 36 farmer.

Ahh thank you, that is interesting as George's wife Mary was a Simkins. It is looking possible that Fanny might be the best guess for the mum. I am really hoping the birth certificate shows something (but on other family birth certificates where the child is illegitimate, the mother field is left blank :( ).

You will always get the mother on an illegitimate child’s birth certificate.
It’s the father that is missing.

You seem to be after who the mother was so the certificate will tell you.

Hello,

I just thought I would share the information from the birth certificate that came back today!

The mother is Frances Whittingham and Sarah was born at Stafford Street, Brewood!!

So it does indeed look like Fanny is the right person!
