Service Record 2 World War
« on: Friday 15 February 19 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello, Is it possible to obtain the Service Record for an AIF soldier from World War 2.
I am interested in finding out where and when he served, any injuries, mentions in dispatches etc.etc.
His name is Walter Charles Horsfall X 1128.
Any help in providing information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

His Australian Imperial Forces army record is in the National Archives in Canberra - you can request an online copy https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=4927909&isAv=N

His service record is indexed at the NAAs online record collection,  showing his dob for 1919,
His service number is NX11278 so a tad different from your post.  The N for the state,  X for overseas and then the five digit number.   The file has not been digitised,  so you would need to a) confirm he is no longer living and b) pay for the digitisation .. oh  and c) wait while they process ... can be three months .......  :D

Don't follow Carole's link which only applies to UK service records. Use the name search facility on the NAA website https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/SearchScreens/NameSearch.aspx

Yes - I must apologise.  I didn’t realise AIF referred to Australia when I posted that link
