Joseph Kitley undecipherable surname
« on: Friday 15 February 19 07:36 GMT (UK) »
This snip is from the marrige register of St Mary Mary-le-bone for Samuel DYER and Maria TARN, 6 March 1827

I am hoping someone can help me with the surname of the male witness which looks as though it may be Jones, but I'm not sure.  His forenames seem fairly clear as "Joseph Kitley"

Thanks, Judith

So do I.

I was thinking the same but the two letter "J"s look a bit different.  The last letter is probably an "R".

Searching with the first names Joseph K*tley only brings up surnames Ruse/Reese,  Morrison & King.  Ruse/Reese is the only one in the right time frame.

It could also be an occupation Gent but it does not look much like that either.

The last letter is probably an "R"

Written as an abbreviation, Junr.

I agree the last word is probably Jnr (short for Junior)

But wonder whether Joseph's surname is Ketley (not Kitley)??

Burial of a Joseph Kitley at Marylebone, 11 March 1827. Less than a week after that marriage! How strange.
Age 23, abode Ogle Street.

Yes, could say Ketley for the marriage witness. :-\
