Robert Williams bc 1855 Conwy in the census returns for 1861 and 1871.

Hello Rootschatters,

Can anyone find an entry for Robert Williams bc 1855 in the 1861 and 1871 census returns?

I have him from 1881 onwards but the earlier years have eluded me. It is thought he had siblings by the names of Edward and Lydia, no details of their years of birth are known. In the census returns for  years 1891-1911 he shows his place of birth as Conwy. In the 1881 it is Llangelynin, Caernarfonshire. There seem to be family links to Liverpool.

Hi again, would I be correct that the link to Liverpool was the Edith Williams b c 1891 Liverpool, who is shown as daughter with Robert & Sarah E in 1901 Census ref RG13/5289/98/26  but as Niece with same family in 1911?

Robert Williams married Saran Ellin (Ellen) Evans in 1880 in Conwy.

Sarah was shown as being born in Liverpool on the census. As you have found, Edith Williams, daughter/niece, was also born in Liverpool. There are other members of this family who had connections to Liverpool.

In 1881 Robert and Sarah were living in Seaview Terrace, Conwy. They left there c1886 and as you have found, in the 1891, they are living in Salford.

There is no trace of Robert Williams in either the 1861, or 1871 census returns so far.

In 1901 and 1911, Robert Williams and family are living in Llandudno. I didn't post details as there are no clues which would help find him in earlier years.

Re the marriage certificate, I don't have a father's name for Robert. The witnesses were Edward and Lydia Williams.

I suspect that Edward Williams was his brother. There is a marriage for Edward Williams to Lydia Thomas in St Asaph RD in 1863. I have found Edward (bc1839) in census returns for 1841,1851,1871 and 1881. He was born in Llangelynin and living there in the household of John and Mary Roberts in the 1841 census. In 1851 he is a servant in Llechan, Caernarfon. In 1871 and 1881, he is married and living in Conwy.

Jo.
