CofE. Kiddy baptised, before the parents married. Does that float, please?

Thanks  :)

The ceremony is always about the Kiddy, and is not about their parents.

Got one of those. Child baptised in 1764 with mother's maiden name and the word 'bastard' in the register. Parents married straight afterwards - same day, same church. They went on to have 13 more kids.

Under Canon Law no minister can refuse or delay to christen any child, if he does so then he shall be suspended by the Bishop of the diocese from his ministry for three months.
Canon Law also states that no parent shall be urged to be present (at a baptism) or can be a godfather for his own child. Godfathers and Godmothers had to be communicants, therefore had to have been baptised.

This might be a side question, but are there instances of godparents being recorded accidentally (or otherwise) as the birth parents on church records?

Plenty of children baptised as 'base born' - no suggestion of any imminent marriage.

Yes, and when I thought I was wrong the Chief Archivist brought out the original parish register and confirmed it for me...

baptised at Bradfield the iv day of February 1588/9: George son of John Crawshaw.  This would make him born at least 1 month before his parents’ marriage, making him illegitimate.
Married at Bradfield church 03 March 1588/9: John Crowshay & Ellen Bromhed (they were definitely his parents)

We checked and double-checked the order in which they were entered...I got to look at the original register! (wasn't allowed to touch).  So, it's a YES from me!
