rhinefield house new forest

I am looking for all info on Rhinefield House in the New Forest, I have loads of info regarding the house and the Walker-Munro family who built it and owned it until c1954, then a mixture of private owners, I would like to know about  these and it was also a school, and used as a training school during the war (I think) any info on this latter part of it's history would be great.

Hi Dave and welcome to Rootschat!

I guess you've seen the tons of stuff you get with a Google search including this nice one with pictures and a 'potted' history http://www.southernlife.org.uk/rhinefie.htm

http://www.hants.gov.uk/brockenhurstchurch/history/

There are also some interesting 'hits' on the Historical Directories site here http://www.historicaldirectories.org/

Good luck with your research

Jonathan

Hi Dave

Rhinefield House is now a luxury hotel, owned by Hand Picked Hotels.  I don't know if this has come up in your Google searches.  I think it is a fairly recent acquisition - I believe at one time it was run as a hotel by Richard Branson.

Have you tried the New Forest Museum in Lyndhurst?  There is a wonderful reference library upstairs, and the staff are really helpful.  I expect they would respond to a written request as well as they do callers.  A great place to lose yourself for an hour or two  -  or much longer if you have the time!
