Sunderland marriage records 1881
« on: Friday 01 March 19 12:22 GMT (UK) »
Just wondering if there's a way of finding out if there's a parish record for a marriage in Q4 1881 in Sunderland? I can't find the marriage we're after on any of the main websites, other than the civil registration.

I've tried to use the Durham Images website but struggling with the indexing system and the surnames are SMITH and JACKSON so a little bit frequent!

Thanks for any help with this.

Hello Pauline, thanks for the reply. It says 'Sorry, we cannot locate the church for this marriage. The entry is located between entries for Sunderland (RD: Sunderland) and South Shields St Thomas (RD: South Shields).'

Durham Images only has parish records for a very few of the possible marriage locations within the Sunderland Registration District,

Possibly a civil or non-conformist marriage, I’ve looked on Durham records online and FindMyPast and its a no show... assuming this is Henry Smith and Matilda Jackson?

Do you have more information Fleming which could help you with this search.  Such as the couple's full names and where in the Sunderland area they may have lived.  Some RootsChatters on here are good with locations and may be able to work out likeliest Churches based on home area.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, great response  :D and, yes, Alan - that's the one!

I presume, as suggested, that's a registry office wedding?

Unless there is a registry office at North Hylton it would be a RC or other non-Anglican Church ceremony
