Burma Campaign

Did the British Army go to Sydney, Australia after the Burma Campaign, maybe to convalesce from their injuries, or on their way back home to the UK?

If my husband's Uncle did go to Australia after the Burma Campaign, for a rest, would it show on his service record? We also know that he was a prisoner of war.

By the end of the war General Douglas MacArthur was Supreme Commander of the Allied forces against Japan.  His headquarters launched "Operation Blacklist" which aimed to locate, identify, care for and repatriate all prisoners - military and civilian.

Most of the information I have found online relates to the USA prisoners, but I imagine the principles were the same for British, Empire, and Commonwealth P-O-Ws.

There are Japanese P-O-W records on Ancestry and FindMyPast, but it is a matter of luck as to how much information was recorded.  The service record would give details of all postings, so if your husband's uncle did go to Australia it would show up on his record (unless this happened after he was discharged from the Forces).
