Training for returning personnel after WW2

Hi, my father was a Royal  Marine in WW2. He lived all of his life in Liverpool apart from the war years. After the war he trained as a bricklayer in London. Does anyone know what training schemes were available post war for returning sevicemen? I’m interested in why he would have been in London instead of going home to Liverpool initially. Thanks

Hello. 

Aldershot is known as the "Home of the British Army".  Could it be that he was discharged there?

Thank you for replying. He was discharged to R M Chatham in Kent which is 'down south' for us Northerners. I just wondered if maybe there was some sort of incentive/ training programme to stay in the London area for rebuilding after the Blitz. If he hadn't been in London, he wouldn't have met my mum!

Hang it! It's really Required Reading for any of us whose parents 'picked up a rifle'
