Rootsireland - a look-up in, or opinions on?

I queried on the Longford board, but thought I'd cast my net wider:

Can anyone lookup baptismal records of the children of Thomas DOYLE and Rose RODGERS/ROGERS in Colmcille/Columbkille, County Longford for the years 1833-1845 on Rootsireland?

The site has transcripts for these years, but they are, as yet, missing from FamilySearch and the Catholic Parish Registers at National Library of Ireland.

Barring a look-up, is Rootsireland a worthwhile place to search for information, or do FamilySearch and the NLI cover much of the same ground?

Well, my 2 cents worth is as follows:

The NLI did not film all surviving parish registers.
The NLI films are often completely unreadable for many pages. They did not vary the exposure properly.

Ancestry, FamilySearch and FindMyPast indices were made from the NLI films.
Ancestry and FamilySearch indices were clearly made by non-natives, ignorant of Irish names and place names. As a result, their entries are often highly inaccurate.

RootsIreland indices were sourced from original records, not the NLI microfilms, by locals.

All that said, RootsIreland show eight ( 8 ) baptisms of children born to the couple you are interested in, over the period from 1837 to 1856.

The RootsIreland database is more comprehensive than that of the others, as it includes the names of godparents and witnesses, officiating priest, comments, etc.  You can search for godparents and witnesses.

All that said, RootsIreland show eight ( 8 ) baptisms of children born to the couple you are interested in, over the period from 1837 to 1856.

The NLI collection and the indexes created from it on Ancestry/FindMyPast will never be updated beyond the current years. It's a historic database cutting off at 1880 (in most cases).

Rootsireland also has its flaws. Some centres were better transcribers than others. Some leave out notes and godparents. You can get a 24 hour subscription for just €15 - but a month costs just double that.

Hi, I look at all the sites
Tithe
Griffiths Valuation
Census
FamilySearch
Then match up what I find.
I used RootsIreland for years, great site as you could search by name not like the NLI where you need the Parish, there again that was after I spent hours in the Library in Dublin searching the many reels.
Longford Town Library is a great help as I found records in there from 1837.

So, this may be a bit of a stretch, but perhaps not. I know from my experience that you never know the piece that helps tie things together, especially when it comes to Irish research!

My ggrandmother is Mary Rodgers, born in Longford in 1886 in Dromard Parish, Ballinamuck. Parents were Elizabeth McNally and Patrick Rodgers (b. 1835, father is James, mother unk.). She had a sister named Rose, and ended up naming one of her children Rose (it seems to come from the Rodgers line, not Mcnally).

She married Patrick Lennon of Brocklagh in 1898 in Providence, RI, and one of the witnesses was James Doyle, also from near Drumlish, Longford, the other, sister Rose Rodgers, but we have never been able to confidently track down the relation or connection to the Doyles.

I will be happy to share the details that I have of any of the above if interested!
