Thomas Warburton Bennett c1774
« on: Sunday 10 March 19 23:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone might be able to shed a little light of this double barrel surname please to help me get back a little further in my tree please?

Sarah Bennett marries William Goodwin in 1838, Hope, Derbyshire. She was born around 1823 Manchester.

In her wedding record his father is SIMEON Goodwin, her father is Thomas Warburton Bennett. I am interested in the Warburton part as when Sarah registers her children she used the Maiden name Bennet, Warburton, or Warburton Bennett.
May be Thomas had a double barreled name or was born a bennett and married a Warburton or was born illegitimately to a Warburton or had parents that were married, the father died and Bennett was his step dad's name!!!!
I think he was born c1774??

Any suggestions would be gratefully received as this is making my brain hurt!!

Hello
Death/burial for Thomas Warburton Bennett at Eckington age 63 in  13 May 1846
So birth c1783.

I'd go for this census in Canal Row Staveley 1841
Thomas Bennett 58 lab y
Elizabeth 60 y
Robert 25 y
Ann 13 y
Robert Kay 20 y
Ann Kay 25 y

There is a John Warburton Bennett buried at Witton-cum-Twambrooks, Cheshire, England 3.4.1835 age 22 who may be an older son.
and Robert marries 22 Mar 1849 at Chesterfield as Robert Warburton Bennett to Ann Smedley.
Can I find them on the census, can I heck as like. The births of their children seem to at Stockport.

It looks like Thomas Bennett married Elizabeth Kay at Beighton 2 Oct 1810
He is from St Johns York and she is of Beighton
wit John Cavill (regular witness) and Ann Kay

Struggling to get before that.

ps the baptisms for their children may be as Warburton at the New Connexion chapel Altringham
Sarah 7 June 1824 bapt 12 July
George 1 May/10 June 1822
William 1/15 July 1821

That is amazing, thank you Ciderdrinker, this did not flag up on any of the searches I did on Ancestry. In fact I am starting to be concerned about my ancestry tree as there could be alternatives to all of my family members that Ancestry just doesn't have records for or missing people might exist but I will never know!!

I really appreciate your help. Do you mind me asking if you use another search engine please?

I had been trying to find out why they were keeping the Warbourton part of their name and was investigating Bennett Warbourton marriages but the only one I could find was 1796 which is too late for Thomas.

I think this might be one of those stories that will remain a mystery!!!!!!
Thanks for all of these leads though, you never know, something might emerge from these now and I have hope again for finding some things out :)
.

Best wishes,
Emma

Hi
Yes I have got Ancestry but most of the stuff cam from FindMyPast.
I saw that 1796 marriage too but as you say it was too late.
All the best
