Records of Nursing Services during WW II
« on: Saturday 16 March 19 03:23 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to verify hand written reminiscences of a Nurse (now deceased) during WW II. She was living in India and notes of her life say that she joined the Auxiliary Nursing Service (in India most probably) with No. 877, a branch of the Royal Army Nursing, by putting up her age; she then served abroad in Basra and Shaiba-a, Iraq, Palestine and Singapore (where she was also placed in Changi prison camp by the Japanese). She had become a Registered Nurse in the Royal Army Medical Corp, joining at Peshawar in 1939 at the start of WW II, having done her training at Netley in Queen Alexandra's Military Nursing Service. Her name while serving was probably Pamela Ursual Mandelli (born 1922) until her mother re-married in India in 1937 to Quartermaster Bill Glover.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction to find and verify this story, or better still, if anyone has access to such records could they please look up her records for me. I have already extracted in formation from the India Records Office online but am sure I haven't really touched records that I presume must be available somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help given. Regards, francoso

I would think that as she was in the QAs her records would still be with MOD as all servicing personnel from 1920 onwards are there.

This is the link for obtaining UK service records:

I agree with medpat.

You'll need her death certificate (paper, not PDF) and a cheque for £30 (non-refundable if no record found).  MoD will also require her full name, which you don't seem to be sure about, plus her full date of birth and/or service number.

It depends on how much you need the information.  Was she closely related to you?
