What does this word on a civil birth registry say?
« on: Saturday 16 March 19 21:29 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone read this word on a northern Irish civil birth registry from 1916?

Further context: the entry is in the name of the mother, father unknown. This section of the form is normally for a mother's maiden name, but I'm fairly sure that this mother is actually unwed. It looks to me like the 'Formerly' is crossed out, but I can't be sure it's not just a printing error on the form lines. If it is crossed out, I'm not sure what this field is being used for instead - other unwed mothers on the same sheet just have the 'Formerly' crossed out and the space left blank.

Thanks in advance!

servant. When the mother is unmarried her occupation is sometimes given.

That was my first reading of it as well, but I thought there was an 'i' in the middle of it.

But it's good to know that occupation could be given as well, I thought it might be the case but wasn't sure.  :)

Ah, that makes sense. The little splodge of ink above it was throwing me off.

Thanks Aghadowey!  ;D
