Joseph GALLAGHER b. 1887 advice please
« on: Sunday 17 March 19 16:49 GMT (UK) »
The only information I have on Joseph Gallagher is his marriage certificate to Elizabeth Hannah Mably and his very brief RFC record.

He was born either on 7 of March or May 1887 (poor handwriting on his RFC record).  His father was James Gallagher, a carpenter journeyman.

There are so many Joseph Gallaghers.  I have been unable to link him with James, his father, in an Irish or UK census.

But I have now found the following birth registration on Family Search:

Name    Joseph Gallagher
Event Type    Birth
Event Date    Apr - Jun 1887
Event Place    Glenties, Ireland
Registration Quarter and Year    Apr - Jun 1887
Registration District    Glenties
Volume Number    2

Other than applying for a birth certificate, is there any way I can find out more about this Joseph Gallagher?

Many thanks

Thank you Eilean and Hallmark for pointing out that website to me.  I've already spent hours on it - though still not found my man!  The Joseph Gallaghers that I was looking for in Glenties don't have the right birth date.

Seriously though, it is useful even just as a process of elimination.

Many thanks again

Yes - and sadly not found him.

From Joseph's marriage certificate (Reading, Berks, England) James was deceased by June 1918.  I am trying to find his death, guessing his age and assuming he was from/living in Ireland, Scotland or England.

I wouldn't worry too much about the birth dates, keep an eye on the father and his job. As many can confirm birth days on certs are often incorrect as the parents fibbed to avoid a late registration fine.
There is an endless stream of babies baptised before they were born going by their birth certs ;D
