This info came from a ScotlandsPeople download. Can someone tell me what the margin note refers to?

Scotlands people download:
Fordyce 1786   July 10th   George BRODY sailor in Sandend had a child by his wife Jannet Wiseman baptized called John
Witnesses: John Wiseman in Portsoy and John Hay?May? in Sandend
in margin is written:  22nd July  Kirk? Elder see 1804

It would be easier to comment if we could see the original image. It might be a reference to a neglected entry not inserted in the register until 1804.

Yes, the baptism on 22nd July was not entered at the time in 1786, but will have been entered in 1804. This refers to a neglected entry. It is not at all connected with the Brody baptism.

The second witness's surname is Hay.

Right...... so if you page through until 22 July 1804 you would find the entry that should have been noted in 1786? Is that what it means?

Exactly so.

SP has an index entry for Keith Elder, baptised in Fordyce in 1786.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you to both of you with your help in this.

As my research in mainly in Northumberland, I'm not au fait with Scottish records. I'd almost assumed that Mr Brodie had become a Kirk Elder in 1804! Hence my need for clarification!
