Titannic Ethel Annie Cooke or Hillier

Ethel Annie Cooke or married name Hillier was supposed to travel on Titannic, but was ill and didn't go. Do any records exist that could prove this? She could have been  booked on the return journey?  Any ideas welcome, carolmc

I am assuming this is a family story passed down and you have been told and before the internet or easy access to Belfast and/or Southampton records to prove/disprove it seems it was a popular family story people were told.
I have heard it told several times.

I think family stories are great and tells you a lot about them and their life. From personal family stories I was told when a child by my older great aunts  who were long gone by the time I started to research my ancestry it was a bit like chasing rainbows trying to research them and soon found that I found out more by trying to disprove them, than prove them ( that could say more about me and my 'researching ' style...not sure)
However....... it is your families verbal history and should be recorded as such, who told you, when and what was said and if it is told more than once by the same person or someone else, each time written down/dated ( the same story is often told differently and again all give clues about family). Personally I have found with mine they were told to hide the truth or exagerate reality and one great aunt who told me tall tales which I repeated to my mum and gran ( who always laughed them off) turns out what I thought even then as tall tales were true

We have a family story that an ancestor had a farm with acres of land, and lost it all in a game of cards...the closest I have found was an Ag Lab

My grandfather was booked to sail on Titanic but had to cancel because of family illness. His "lucky escape" was reported in the local newspaper and he sailed a month later.

I have family members who were going to go on a doomed trip but couldn't because they had other things to attend to.

They don't appear on any list because they hadn't booked.

We lost 1 member instead of 3!

Only the 1 that took a ticket appears.
