 ;D

Interestingly, William Milne only married Janet (Jessie) Logan in 1853 - he appears as a widower in 1851. So George must surely be a son from a previous marriage?

Any indication from the death certificate where George might be in 1864? I can't see an obvious candidate in Tarves in 1861...

Yes there is. Its a little hard to read, but I'll type up what I think it says.

Looks like: Asleed, under that it has Tarves crossed out, under that it looks like it may be Monquitter.

Would he mean Burn of Asleed? I can find that. I think its in the parish of Montquhitter.

Think this must be him:

1851
Asleed, Millbrex, Monquhitter
George Milne, overseer, 32, Tarves, Aberdeenshire
Helen Masson, wife, 30, Banchory, Kincardine

1861
Hillhead, Millbrex, Monquhitter
George Milne, overseer, 42, Tarves, Aberdeenshire
Helen M Milne, wife, 41, Banchory, Kincardine

1871
Hillhead Asleed, Monquhitter
George Milne, overseer, 52, Tarves
Helen Milne, wife, 55, Banchory, Kincardine

Can't find him obviously in 1841 - or a marriage between him and Helen Masson.

I now have a "hit" for George Milne & Helen Masson. Going to e-mail this researcher & see if they know anymore.

I think I may have a couple of siblings for George Milne. This from 1891:

1891 Auchreddie, New Deer
George Milne, feuar, 68, Tarves, Aberdeenshire
Helen Milne, wife, 73, Banchory, Kincardineshire
Catherine Milne, sister, 75, Tarves, Aberdeenshire
Robert Milne, brother, 62, Tarves, Aberdeenshire

George Milne looks to have died in Old Deer in 1896, and Helen Masson or Milne died in Old Deer in 1897.

" on the censuses I can find of her."
I have found her in all the censuses. Did you find her in the 1841 census? With her is an Elisabeth Smith, aged 19 & Christian Shepherd aged 11, James, 9, John,7, & a 4 year old James Simpson (possible grandson?). If Christian is her daughter, & not her stepdaughter, then her first husband must have died sometime between their Elisabeth's conception & Christian's birth.

Thank you flst,

Elisabeth Smith is from her 1st marriage to John Smith. Christian, James & John are from the 2nd. James Simpson is her grandson from her other daughter Jane Smith who married Adam Matthew & I descend from their son John Matthew.
I've posted about the Matthew family on here before, also another Milne family that I don't think are related to this John Milne/Jane Cowie Milnes.
