Calcutta, India - Goddard family
« on: Tuesday 02 April 19 07:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for information in Calcutta, India, in respect to the family of George Charles Goddard b. 1873 in Calcutta.    He was 2nd son of George Weavings Goddard and his wife Harriet Sarah (nee Hickmott).   There were 8 children born to George & Harriet, 6 born in Calcutta, and two born in London, U.K.   Edward William Leonard Goddard b 1871 d 1896, George Charles b. 1873, Harold Percy Goddard b 1875 Fulham, UK, Eveline Emma b 1876 Calcutta, Kathleen Marion b. 1878 Calcutta, Frank Ernest b. 1879 Brixton, Surrey UK, Henry Archibald b. 1882 Calcutta and Harriett May Hickmott b. 1883

The one  particular son I am still investigating is this George Charles Goddard b. 1873, he attended boarding school at Edmonton School, London from a very young age. He married in 1901 in Wales to Olive Christina Hurley. They had two children George b. 1902 and Eileen in 1907.   We believe that George migrated to Fremantle, Western Australia in 1909, and his wife Olive migrated with their 2 children in 1911.

We are looking for any information on his life, particularly in India, before he married in Wales in 1901, when he was aged about 28 years,  and any other information after his marriage, in regard to his working life.    We believe that he was an Ironmonger in Claremont W.A. in 1916 census.

We believe that he later was Assistant Manager with the Company, Robison & Norman a Pearling Company in Broome, Western Australia in 1922 census.

Would appreciate any assistance in regard to India mostly, I don't have access to any records over there.

Thanking you in anticipation. Regards Jan

I do not understand your reference to Census records in Australia, can you please explain ...  I am sure that throughout most of the 20th century, these were pulped once the statistics had been extracted.    Perhaps you mean electoral rolls ... In Australia, both federal and state/territory rolls  are in alphabetical order by surname, and are not by household.   Persons who are not old enough to enrol to vote are not listed, nor are non-citizens.   I understand that Ancestry may be referring to the Australian Electoral Rolls as Census Records...

Have you checked the National Archives of Australia for passenger lists?

I do apologise, I used the wrong wording, should have been "electoral rolls", rather than census.
