Liberators on film
The Nijmegen Regional Archives earlier acquired a collection of 684 pictures of Allied soldiers who were involved in the liberation of Nijmegen in World War II or who were stationed at Nijmegen afterwards. The collection was donated in 2000 by ‘Foto Verweij’, a photography shop in Nijmegen. The photos were taken following Operation Market Garden, at the end of 1944 and in the beginning of 1945, when Nijmegen was a frontline city.

Thankyou for the link.
Such ordinary chaps but what an extraordinary feat.
Why I expected them to be anything but ordinary I don’t know,it is just that we know what a hard battle that was,and so many so young.
I have not visited the cemetery but my husband made a point of visiting whenever he was in that part of aHolland on business, and the young ages of so many really went home.
Thanks again, seeing the faces of those numbers even if we don’t have their names is very sobering.
Viktoria.

Hi Brigitte and welcome to RootsChat, thanks so much for taking the time to post a link to this wonderful photographic collection. A great archive for those who's  relatives took part in the operation.
