John Hambly
« on: Friday 05 April 19 22:02 BST (UK) »
can anyone help me identify a place
according to the 1851 census John Hambly born 1781 MORVINSTOW but I cannot find this place anywhere in Devon so any suggestions would be welcome.

he married in 1802 to Mary Ann Farley in Eggbuckland and died there in 1860 so his place of birth is only on the 1851 census
thanks

I think it must be Morwenstow , which is in Cornwall , not Devon.

On the 1802 marriage entry one of the witnesses is a James HAMBLY. A James HAMBLY was baptised at Morwenstow, in 1779 son of Richard & Judith. You can check using http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/
