re William Hanlon
« on: Saturday 06 April 19 18:38 BST (UK) »
Hi i am looking for information on my uncle William Hanlon born in Dungloe in Co Donegal, Ireland on 14th October 1899. His mother was Margaret Hanlon who later married William Hamilton.
William lived with his grandparents in Dungloe but later went to work in Co Tyrone. Year or area unknown. Family have searched for years to find him with no luck, just hoping somebody out there can help. Thank you

Hi

Do you know approx when William was living and working in Tyrone?   Could he have eventually died in that county.

As its not his birth, but rather his life/death you are seeking information on, it might be worth having this query on the Tyrone board, in case he married and had a family there.

Kind regards

Hi again

Should have added a caution - there is an error on the 1901 Census where Catherine is shown as "Daughter in law" whereas the actual handwritten form twice states she is "Daughter".

I only discovered this after spending ages looking for another son of Richard and Catherine - who had married a Catherine!

Cheers

Thank you for your replies, yes that is him on census forms. I noticed that error on census forms too, i managed to find a birth certificate for him. As all his siblings are now dead the only memory they had of him was that he was working in Co Tyrone but not sure of the area.I tried a search online through Groni but was unable to find any record of a marriage or death. I will try posting on Tyrone site and see if anything comes of it. Thank you all for your help, this has been a mystery going on for years and through all our searches we had hoped to find out some news before my Dad and rest of his family passed on.

Don't do another thread it will only confuse things, now we know you only what a record of him in Tyrone we can look there.

Better to ask a moderator to move this one to Tyrone.

Online civil registrations on Irish Genealogy site only go up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties. You need to search GRONI's database for later marriages and deaths but without any other details except date of birth to confirm his identity it may be very difficult to find a record of William anywhere.
Would he have been mentioned in Will or estate papers from any relatives?
