While searching through death records for Gelsenkirchen online at Landesarchiv NRW.de I stumbled across registrations for the deaths of the following soldiers taken prisoner during WW1 who died in Gelsenkirchen-Alt. The Landesarchive SU records are online but there is no register of names and if you don't know the date of registration it is necessary to scroll through (literally) thousands of records checking each one for the name of the person you are looking for, so it could be tricky to find these people if you didn't know exactly what you were looking for.

The soldiers are:
Thomas Murphy d 20.7.1918 25yrs old Durham Light Infantry, from Weatherley Hill, Co. Durham
William John Penfold d 13.7.1918 34yrs old London Regiment, from Bexley Heath
James Unsworth d 25.7.1918 25yrs old Kings Own Lancashire Regiment, from Little Hulton
Arthur Staley d 20.7.1918 25yrs old Kings Own Yorkshire Regiment, from Ringinglow, Sheffield
Henry Edgar Dawdry d 2.10.1918 26yrs old 2nd Regiment City of London from Bethnal Green Middlesex

You can get the records free online from the NRW Landesarchiv - Gelsenkirchen is in the OWL (OstWestfalenLippe) section, or you can PM me.
