I found an old post card of Market Street !

I do not think the building still exists  ???

Did you find the family in the Census ??

Are you interested in finding out how more on the history of the pub before your family ran it ?

Hi Rootschat
Thanks for the postcard link. We haven't been able to find the exact address of the inn, just market ave, so we're not sure if the building is still standing. I was hoping for any info on pub owners, licence. locations, etc so I can have someone photograph the area/building (if still there). I'm putting together a family history for my mother's 70th birthday and her grandfather and his father & brothers & sisters all worked there in 1900/1901. I thought a picture would be a nice addition to the family history. But the postcard may have to do.
Thanks again :)

Hi Galena,

I had a look at the 1891 census for you.

I found the Commercial Inn (and Hotel) just after 35 Market Street not sure of the number as this is not stated.

I found William McNutt head either 57,56 or 58 the writing is not clear, listed as hotel Manager born in Ireland.  There is also daughter's Sarah 22 listed as Maid and Mary Ellen 11 Scholar both born in the same place.....writing is poor it looks like ...heling back .....????? very sorry this is the best I can say

At least you will have a rough address to work with.

The best of luck !

Belated Thanks Sarah!
I have been researching so many lines of enquiry that I lost track of this one.  :-[
That's the best info we've had yet and we greatly appreciate the help.
I've seen some of the census taker's handwriting and it's certainly hard to decipher-and that's even with knowing names & places!

Hi Galena,

I am glad it is of help.

I have been trying to locate the place "Heling" do you think it could be in Lancashire other possibly in another area??? I found a couple of places called "Healing" based in North East Lincolnshire.

Regards

Sarah

Hi Sarah
I know that all the children were born in Pickup Bank  (Yate & Pickup Bank) so I'm guessing the
census taker's writing was really bad!
Thanks again
