John WIlliams b 1783/1786
« on: Thursday 25 April 19 23:12 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if someone with a better detective brain than mine might be able to help me please?

I am trying to find the parents of John Williams born 1783. My actual question is in italics but I thought I would give a bit of a background.

Here is what I have found so far:

I know this is my 3 x great grandfather = William Williams and baptised  Oct 1814 • Upton By Southwell,Nottingham. Parents John Williams (blacksmith) and Mary.

I have a marriage of a John Williams and Mary Watts 20 Dec 1813 • Halam, Nottinghamshire, England and because of the locality I think this might be the right marriage.

I assumed John and Mary remained in Nottinghamshire (around Halam/Upton) and searched the census records for John and Mary Williams born around 1783 and with the profession of blacksmith and found the below

1841 Piece 867 Book 16 Folio 5 - John, blacksmith b 1786 Nottinghamshire. Mary b 1791
1851 Piece 2134 Folio 415 Page number 6 - John, b 1786 blacksmith Chester, Cheshire. Mary b 1783 Halam Notts. Living next door to son John.
1861 Piece 2472 Folio 38 Page number 17- John Williams snr, b 1783, blacksmith, Pulford, Cheshire. Mary b 1783 Halam Notts.

For some reason most of the other 'hint' trees on ancestry have William's father John as being born in Flintshire but I believe from the coincidences of the census records that my 4 x g.grandfather John was born in Cheshire.

The only baptism I can find for Pulford is John son of William and Katherine 19/08/1792 Pulford, Cheshire, England. This would make him 7 or 9 when he was baptised. Please could someone look up this baptism to see if there is mention of his age?

Unsurprisingly there are loads of other births in Cheshire of a John Williams but I am hoping that there is something in the parish register that would give me an indication that I am on to the right one!!

Thanks very much for reading through all of this, I really appreciated it.

Best wishes,
Emma

There is no mention of John's age in the records.  William's occupation is given as Labourer - parish record and BTs.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi,
Thank you very much for finding this information and for sharing it with me, I appreciate your help.
I hadn't considered that the church might not have been built. I looked on line and the current one was built 1884 I think. There were previous ones but before being demolished prior to the new one being built perhaps it was too ruinous for services (I was trying to find out but can't find church histories for Pulford other than for the new one).
I have been trying to find out if the parish registers for Pulford 1750-1800 still exists or if they are lost.
This baptism is a real consideration and I really appreciate you taking the time to check :)
Best wishes Emma

Hello,
That was very kind of you to look, thank you very much. The proximity makes this even more likely.
Best wishes Emma 😊
