James Mark Winter. Registration of death 1881-88
« on: Friday 26 April 19 09:15 BST (UK) »
JMW was born on 11 Aug 1851, Wellington, Somerset. Registered in name of Mark.
As James Mark Winter married Fanny Gamlin in Bristol in August 1873.
In 1881 living in Abergavenny with wife and 3 children.

Marriage of Fanny Winter and Charles Davis registered in Woolwich, March Q, 1888.
In 1891 two Winter children living with mother Fanny in St Marleybone. Third child with maternal grandfather in Somerset.

Closest match for death of JMW is James Winter, age 34,  March Q 1883. Cardiff. Not very convinced. Can anyone find anything better?

It's pretty close age wise, you may need to get the death to confirm one way or the other  :-\

Weirdly there is a burial for a James Mark Winter on Deceased online at Camden 5 Oct 1883.
Is there a Camden in Cardiff?

That man was 30 and died in Hampstead Hospital so this is likely to be his death registration

James Winter

Q4 1883 Hampstead 1a 439

Thanks Ciderdrinker and Tickettyboo. Even though the age is couple of years out, as is the Cardiff record, the inclusion of his full name on the burial record is quite persuasive.

I had always wondered how his widow, whose family connections were all in the West Country and Wales, had been motivated to move to London - I had assumed after his death if it had been in Cardiff - together with three small children.  It now appears that  JMW moved them, which makes much more sense. He was a baker and confectioner and would presumably not have found it too difficult to find employment.

A particular thank you to you, Ciderdrinker, for alerting me to Deceased on Line. I had not come across it before.

I now have the death certificate of James Winter of Hampstead. It shows him as a Baker which is as conclusive as I think I am going to get.

Again, many thanks for the help received.
