Joan Miller b. 11 Oct 1908 Dublin
« on: Saturday 27 April 19 11:07 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to confirm the dob and parents for Joan Miller (my Grandmother), born in Dublin on the 11th Oct 1908. According to my family, her parents are Charles Miller (b. 21 Aug 1873; Dublin) and Edith Howse (b. 4 Feb 1864;  Kennington, Surrey). Charles and Edith married on the 26 Jul 1907 (St. James Church, Dublin).

I have been unable to find a birth certificate or any record confirming the dob for Joan.
Also, within the 1911 Irish census the entry for Charles & Edith, it states that they have had no children.
This means that either, Joan was adopted, or she was born after the 1911 Census.

Can anyone help me solve this riddle, as my mum and I would dearly like to know.
Best wishes,
__Colin

Hi Colin

Was she always known as Joan?  Just wondering if she may have been registered with a different name.

Where did the 11th Oct 1908 birth date come from?  It is a little odd they claim to have had no children - was Joan listed in the household with them in 1911?

Hello Milliepede,
Many thanks for your quick reply

Yes, she has always been know as Joan.
The date of birth comes from the 1939 England and Wales Register. It is also the date we celebrated her birthday when she was still alive.
Within the Census of Ireland, 1911 Form A, under Total Children Born Alive and Children Still Living are dashes '_'.

Regards,
__Colin

A family tree suggests Edith had been married before, I wonder if Joan was born a little earlier and belonged to her previous husband  :-\

Quite often birthdays are correct but the year is out but where is she as a little girl.

Hello Hallmark,
many thanks for your reply.
I have tried this website, but so far all I've got is a blank searching for Joan here. I will give it another try, as its been a while since I last tried and they may of added more records.
Best wishes,

Hello Milliepede,
I have also looked into that, but I have been unable to find any children with the first husband. In fact, the first husband is still a bit of a mystery as I haven't been able to find out much about him.

Hello Milliepede,
the first record I have with proves where Joan Miller lived is her marriage in 1935 in Christchurch, England and then in the 1939 Register. I have no records for before these two.

__Colin
