Mary Ann Denley maybe circa 1785
« on: Tuesday 30 April 19 06:53 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find her parents.
Mary Ann Denley 14 King Street Kensington Middlesex married Robert Doncaster (AKA Dunkerton) 16 Nov 1807 @ St Giles in the Fields, Holborn Camden.
I have been unable to trace them in the 1841 Census.
The 1851 Census Class: HO107; Piece: 1468; Folio: 103; Page: 3, has been transcribed, on certain forums, indicates she was born in Durham, Buckinghamshire. This could be Denham but I am not certain. They were living at 14 King Street Kensington Middlesex on this Census
Any help would be appreciated

Are you sure that the 1851 you mentioned is the right family? Mary  is shown as 53 yrs old, so the year of 1807 couldn't be her marriage (or her birth, if that is what you meant?)

Hello bbart,
Tahnsk for your reply
Quite simply I am not sure if this is correct or not.
The family has been difficult to research as the surname is know in various formats of Doncaster - Dunckorton - Dunckerton, and birth dates and places of birth have also been very different and varied.
I am sure the marriage of Robert Doncaster (AKA Dunkerton) to Mary Ann Denley 16 Nov 1807 @ St Giles in the Fields, Holborn Camden is correct and that he was born in 1778 Mere Wiltshire and was baptised in Mere 22 Apr 1778.

The 1807 marriage gives no parents, but if this the family you are hunting down, it is not the same family as the one on the 1851.

There is a baptism in St Giles for parents Robert and Mary Ann Doncaster:  daughter Mary Ann born 1811,  and a couple more that are a bit "iffy", but still searching!

Do you have a child of theirs that is "for sure" your relative, as a better starting point?

For sure I know this person is my 2 x Great Grandfather
Henry (Henry William!) Doncaster - Dunckorton - Dunckerton, born 26 Feb 1840 baptised as Henry Dunckorton 19 Mar 1843 St Mary Abbots Church, Kensington Kensington and Chelsea, father Robert but mother is show as Maria, but i have been advised that Maria was also known as Mary!
Henry was married twice. The first time was 17 Nov 1861 to Susan Savill (Saville)
(He was shown as William Henry Dunkorton a Minor, on the marriage document and his Occupation was a Butcher Residing in Kensington Middlesex at the time of his marriage. She was residing in Farnham)

Okay, a good starting point then.
Hopefully we can find his civil birth registration, which will hopefully give his mother's maiden name.  Challenging with all those spellings!

I looked at the baptism of Henry, date of birth, as you mentioned, was 26 Feb 1840.

He had a sister, Charlotte, baptised at the same time, and her date of birth was 27(?) Jul 1838.

Ready for a whole new version of the surname?  ::)

GRO index for their births, which gives a mother's maiden name of Horrod:

DONKISSON, HENRY        HORROD
GRO Reference: 1840  M Quarter in KENSINGTON UNION  Volume 03  Page 270

DONKISSON, CHARLOTTE  MARIA      HORROD
GRO Reference: 1838  S Quarter in KENSINGTON UNION  Volume 03  Page 242

So now you need a marriage of a Mary/Maria Horrod to Robert (any 9 letter name starting with D)   ::)

This baptism fits the wife Mary on that 1851 census, right age/birth place:

Name:    Maria Horrod
Gender:    Female
Baptism Date:    7 Apr 1799
Baptism Place:    Denham, Buckingham, England
Father:    William Horrod
Mother:    Ann
