WILLIAM HOBBINS - PLEASE HELP
« on: Monday 15 August 05 18:55 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out where a William Hobbins was born.
According to the death records he died between July and September 1870 in Alcester area at the age of 32.
However I have checked the birth records for 1838 and the only William Hobbins born that year was born in Madeley. But he did not die in 1870, as he is still alive and kicking in 1881.
ANY IDEAS ???

THANKS

Hi

Have you looked for his marriage ................ that would be the safest route to take by far?

If not, do you have his family on the 1871 census?  Where was his wife in 1861?  Any birth certificates for his children that might give an address or occupation?

The problem is that you are never going to know for sure which one, if any, is he in 1861 without some other information to back it up.

Best wishes

Hi
You say he was alive in 1881 - if you post  his and his family's details for 1881 (and as Casalguidi says anything else you know about him ) there is more chance of someone being able to help.
Regards Jan ;)

This William Hobbins I am trying to trace died in 1872.
I am unable to trace any details about him apart from the fact that he died in 1872 aged 32.
I do not know where he came from maybe not this country.

Hmmm. Did you literally just check 1838? if his birthday was later in the year after he died, he could have been born in 1837 ( i think I have got the Maths right. What I mean is, if his birthday was in, say, Oct, he would have been 33 in 1870,(if he hadnt died) and therefore born in Oct 1837)

Emw,

There is one only match on FreeBMD, but have you checked a complete index already?

In the 1861 Census, I can see one William Hobbins who states being born Newcastle on Tyne and whom I can't find in later censuses (which doesn't prove he was dead, of course).
He's in St Pancras as a lodger, a fireman age 24.

Tanja  :)

In 1881, there is also another one, born Warwick Clifford Chambers.

Hi Emw

I was thinking that if we know a little bit more about his wife then that might give us some idea of where he might be ...................

Have you looked for their marriage in the full BMD indexes?

Do you have a birth certificate for any of his children?

Who/where are his wife/children in 1871 census?

Who/where was his wife in 1861 census?

Best wishes
