family History Australia
« on: Wednesday 01 May 19 12:42 BST (UK) »
Hello I am back on my research, looking for a Lewis Edward Davis born 4/4/ 1901
in Beaconsfield Tasmania. Father Richard Alexander  Davis. Mother Elizabeth Adams
I have him marrying Elizabeth Frances Curran  in 1928, did he have any children?
and where did he die.
Possibility he lived in  Parramatta Sydney 1980, but a blank wall after that, therefore
hoping some one can help. Regards Lavender Blue .

Hi there,

Some questions if I may ...

:) Do you have a copy of that 1928 marriage in Victoria?  What information is recorded on it about Lewis and his origins/parents?   What was his then occupation?

:) There are several people with that name on the various NSW electoral rolls for 1980 that are uploaded to Ancestry.   How did you decide that the one at Parramatta was your chap - afterall the image of that roll shows shows he was still working as a tradesman, which is unusual for that era considering he would be near 80 and have been eligible for the Old Age Pension for many years?  It is usual to find a horizontal line or the words 'no occupation' on those rolls when the person is no longer gainfully employed, and has retired.

:) I cannot see anyone listed by your chap's name at the Ryerson index  (of funerals, probates, deaths from various newspaper classifieds)   http://www.ryersonindex.org/

:) I cannot see anyone listed by your chap's name at the NSW BDM death search online index which does not display registrations less than 30 years. (so I checked to 30 April 1989) https://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/Pages/family-history-research/family-history-research-nsw.aspx   :D  :D How certain are you that he moved to NSW?  :D  :D

The marriage of Lewis Edward Davis and Elizabeth Frances Curran took place in Victoria in 1928. Have you looked at Victoria's records?
I had a quick look at trove.nla but without more details, it will be hard to narrow the search.

Victoria Electoral Rolls 1928.  Footscray South
Elizabeth Frances DAVIS, 224 Nicholson St, home duties
Lewis Edward DAVIS, 224 Nicholson St, labourer

There is a death indexed at Vic BDM online for Elizabeth Frances DAVIS, died Royal Park in 1936.  #11084.  Index has her mother as Norah HAYES and father as Thomas CURRAN.  She was recorded as aged 33, born Strathford.  That record can be downloaded via your plastic card

Majam thank you for your research on Lewis Davis, no I havent a marriage certificate
for him.Parents were Richard Alexander Walter Davis, and Elizabeth Jemina Kiddy nee Adams. Lewis was born 4/4/1901 Beaconsfield Tasmania.
There is a will from Richard to his son Lewis 22/2/1923 who was living with the  father in Beaconsfield.
A brother William Arthur Davis died in Sydney 11/3/1935, I have no evidence of Lewis living in
Parramatta other than family for say.
Yes he could have died in Victoria, but my search has been fruitless.Kind Regards
