What is D. O. W?

My Grandfather enlisted in 1940 in the UK.  His pay book and attestation says joined at Sutton and has crossed out all options like Regular Army, Territorial Army, Army reserve etc, and written in D. O. W.

Does anyone know what D.O.W stands for?

He enlisted as a chauffeur (later was in BEF as a driver).

It normally means "Died of Wounds".

In  the context of enlistment it means "Duration of (the) War" which was a normal enlistment term in WW2.

I agree with MaxD, on WW2 enlistment document's it usually means "Duration of War".
