Labour Corps
« on: Wednesday 08 May 19 09:07 BST (UK) »
Just returned from major battlefields of Northern France and need some help tracing Labour Corps service. My grandfather Robert Norman East Kent Regiment 2720 was injured early July 1916 at the Somme and ended up back in the UK.
He was transferred to the Labour Corps Pte 473973 in 1917. Where would he have served with that number until discharge in 1919?
Help would be appreciated.

It can't be entirely definitive but two men with numbers near to his (ending 971 and 972) and allocated at the same time (late 1917) were both sent initially to 715 Company.  Both were also posted to 847 Area Employment Company however one then went to another company.
BUT 975 was also transferred to the Labour Corps in Dec 1917 and sent initially to 715 Company but he went almost immediately to 829 Area Employment Company.

715 Company looks, on the basis of just three samples, like a sort of holding company from where men were then redeployed within a  short time.  One can't say that starting with one company meant he stayed with that company.
