Thomas WILKINS, Wife Ellen (nee FOOTE)
« on: Friday 10 May 19 13:35 BST (UK) »
Hello,

This gentleman, his wife and family are causing considerable difficulty tracing, largely due to minimum personal details.

First, the family emigrated to Australia before 1851.   Second, I am led to understand they lived in Brighton and that a daughter, Ellen, was born in 1832   Third, I have no dates of birth, marriage, other children etc. for the husband/wife.

My apologies but that is the extent of my knowledge passed to me from a descendant in Australia I am corresponding with ??? ??? ::).

I hope someone can help to identify the family.

Thank you,

BAC3

Hello
There is a marriage in Islington 22 Jan 1826 at St mary's
Thomas Wilkins and Ellen Foot bach and spins of this parish
wit William Brice and Robert Farley
It's too early for fathers to be on it.

The Victoria Death index gives
Ellen Wilkins born 1808 died 1893
Thomas 1806- 1877 father given as Thomas but mother is also Ellen Foote

It looks like the family went over on 28  June 1849 on the Caroline Agnes
Thomas 43
Ellen 40
Ellen 17
Thomas 14
George 12
Elizabeth 10
Anne 8
Mary 4

It says they are from Cuckfield Sussex. They arrive at Geelong Point Victoria.Thomas is now described as a Market Gardener and the family from London and Episcopalian.
Daughter Eliza born Geelong 1851.
There is also a son John bapt Brighton 2 Jan 1828

1841 census Preston Sussex
Ellen 30 born Sussex
Ellen 14
Thomas 8
George 6
Elizabeth 2

No  Thomas with them for some reason.

ciderdrinker,

I owe you an enormous amount of gratitude........thank you.    I had trawled through the Inward Passenger listings for Victoria and hoped the Caroline Agnes reference was correct but it was the Islington connection you uncovered which made the search fall into place.

Again, thank you,
