Edsaw Burial and Marriage - Fittleworth area 1660-1690
« on: Monday 13 May 19 00:55 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm hoping someone here might be able to solve a puzzle for me. I am trying to find a burial for Katherine Edsaw who was the wife of Henry Edsaw of Fittleworth sometime after 1665, and a marriage for Henry to an Elizabeth somewhere in the area before 1690.

Henry died in Fittleworth in 1690 and left a Will in which in refers to his sons John, Henry and Richard Edsaw, and his daughter Mary Smart who he describes as "wife of John Smart of Fittleworth".

I have the christening dates for all Henry's children, and in all case the parents are named as "Henry and Katherine"

Mary was christened on 2 November 1660 in Fittleworth
John was christened on 2 December 1662 in Fittleworth
Henry was christened on 12 March 1663 in Fittleworth
Richard [my ancestor] was christened on 17 January 1665 in Fittleworth

Mary married John Smart in Wisborough Green in February 1662.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Best I can find is a Henry Edsaw marrying an Elizabeth Haithorn in 1868 in Sussex, place not specifired. This is from Boyds Marriage List and mentions Chichester Archdeaconery Marriage Licence.

I cannot find a death for Katherine.

Hi there.

Are you sure that date is correct? 1868? That's 200 years after Henry's time lol! Did you mean 1668 or 1688?

Hiya

That's ok, I guessed it was a typo lol! I've seen Henry and Elizabeth's marriage in the Marriage Licences and I think it does fit with the info I have.
