Hi

I am looking for help in understanding what is meant by the occupation "Econimist" in 1881 (RG11, 2282, 144, 10) for Elizabeth Heathcock (nee Asbury), born 1850 in Dudley, Worcestershire.

In 1881 she is living at Higher Burraton, Saltash, Cornwall with her husband William (a boilermaker) and their children.

In future years her occupation is not provided. In the 1871 census (RG10, 4895, 78, 45), Elizabeth's occuaption is a "Staymaker" - which I understand to be a specialist dressmaker (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=286544.0).

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Given that her husband was a boilermaker, this from the Dictionary of Occupational Terms would seem to have some bearing

economiser cleaner, economiser scaler, economiser scurfer
as for boiler cleaner.

Thanks Jen - that's great and makes sense in the context.
