Van Niekerk's need age of people

I may be way off the mark here is it possible that the person second from the right is male and
not female?

The older couple in the first picture are obviously the same as the other two. In the second photos they look to be in their 60's. In the group photo they look about 10 (maybe 15) years older so I would guess they must be in their 70s.

The younger man resembles the woman so he must be their son. He could be 30s/40s. The younger woman could be aged in her 30s. Her hair style looks to be 1930s, though she may not be up to date. 

I am not sure how this works out with both of them dying in the mid to late 1930s. It might be easier to work back from the little boy if you can work out which of the sons had a son born in the late 1920s/early 30s. (at a rough guess)
