Death cert what happened to baby
« on: Monday 20 May 19 12:06 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Ive just obtained the death certificate for my greatgrandfathers 1st wife
She died on the 16th october 1916 aged 28
The cause of death is given as
1 labour at term 2nd october placenta previa
2 secondary malmia pulmonary embolism syncope
I understand the medical side of her death, what i dont understand is  1 says labour at term so that would indicate she gave birth 2 weeks before her death but theres no register of birth, so what happened to baby
Thanks glynn

Still birth seems the most likely.

Placenta previa would have been extremely dangerous for both mother and baby.  Given that there is no birth registration I agree stillbirth looks likely.

This post from AntonyMMM indicates that the stillbirth register started around 1927

If you can find the burial for this lady you might find the potential stillborn child in the same burial register.
