William Cave b?-d 20 May 1779, Compton Dundon, Somerset

William Cave, my 4th GGrandfather was married to Mary Butt on 21 may 1735, Gillingham, Dorset. Dorset England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials 1538-1812.

  William died 1779 at Compton Dundon, Somerset, is buried at St Andrew.
   
 I have my lineage after that however cannot find where he was born or his parents.   I also have nothing on Mary Butt.             
 I do have a tree on Ancestry but do not subscribe any more due to not working. 
 
Can someone please tell me what records are available? There are no Birth Records available, is that correct? Only Baptism....?     How do I go about searching for these people, I am in country Australia and 130ks from a major library, so depend on the net.
Will I need to contact a research person in that area?

A William Cafe bp.1702 Yetminster, Dorset son of Thomas - number of other children with father Thomas most in name of Cafe but at least 3 in name of Cave.

Thankyou Annette, can you tell me please how far away from Gillingham... Yetminster is?  I thought perhaps it would be fairly close?   Where did you locate this please?

They obviously were a family that did not stay in the same area if they married in Gillingham (Dorset) and then lived in Compton Dundon.  Yetminster is relatively close to both places.
