Mary Cawthorne 1881, 1891 & 1901 Census
« on: Friday 24 May 19 03:43 BST (UK) »
Asking for help regarding Mary Cawthorne.
She was the 4th wife of my great grandfather Edwin Stonehouse
They married in the Registry Office in the District of Auckland in County Durham  on the 12th February 1921. Their address at the time was 7 Pearl Street New Shildon, East Thrickley. Her age was 50 yrs old.
I am looking for Mary Cawthorne b 1864 Marske, Yorkshire. Her birth was registered in Guisborough Sept Qtr 1864. On the 1939 Register she gives her birth date as 15 August 1869.
I have her on the 1871 Census living with her parents Robert and Anne. 1871/4852/0050 ( F.S.)
The next time i find her is in 1911 Living with her sister-in-law Sarah (a widow) helping look after the children. RG14/29301/02 ( F. S. )
Can anyone help find her on the Missing Census. She changes her age and also family members that i have found drop the e off the surname.
I would also like to find out what she did for a living.

Many Thanks in Advance
Carol

Ancestry.com.au  1881 census: Piece 4840 Folio 35 Page 20
Mary Cawthorn b 1869 Marske, Yorkshire, scholar. dau of Wm ? and Ann. Wm is an Ironstone miner as per ? Robert in 1871.
1891 census: Mary Millicent Cawthorn age 24 b ?1867 Marske as servant to an architect.
1901 ditto plus sister Florrie, born Marske , registered Guisborough  a visitor.
Probably worth looking at.

Thank you.
My problem is that there is a William and Ann Cawthorne  and  a Robert and Ann Cawthorne.
I have been searching before and after putting the post up.
At this stage i am guessing that William and Robert could be brothers both marring Ann's.
I only have Family Search to work with as i no longer subscribe to any sites.
Mary never used a middle name but looks like she had a sister by the name of Florrie.
I will have to go back and have a look on GRO and see if i can sort the children out
Roberts father was William and his wife was Mary. Among the children are Robert b abt 1841 and William b abt 1837. This couple also have a daughter Mary b abt 1842 and a grand daughter Mary b abt 1855 as i have just found 1841,51 and 61 for Robert Cawthorn which fits with the info i already have.
It's just finding the right Mary.

Thank you for your time . I will check these leads out.

Carol

In 1881 she is probably a servant in the LAWSON household.

After being up most of the night (New Zealand) i have  had a little sleep and just finished 2 cups of coffee.
A re-look at Mary 1881  appears to be a servant in the Lawson Household. Her birth year is only 1 yr out and place of birth is correct.

Thanks for every one's help.
Carol

P.S. Still looking for 1891 and 1901. Will check out Florrie in 1901
