Death and burial in Belfast?
« on: Friday 24 May 19 05:30 BST (UK) »
Greetings! Can anyone help? I hope to come over to Belfast in August and would dearly love to find my great grandparents grave. Not sure where to start though.

Robert Cunningham [born before 1833?- no record] and Agnes Robinson [born 1823? Christened 1823 Ballyeaston Antrim] married 18th Nov 1854 in May Street Presbyterian Church, both 'Full Age'. Robert a 'plasterer ' of Belfast, father John Cunningham also a plasterer; and Agnes from Ballynahatty,  father Samuel Robinson a 'butler'. Witnesses were Lowry Cunningham and William Robinson.
The couple had 6 or 7 children - John 1855, Margaret 1857 born 5 Walsh St off Cromac St;, Jane 1860 born 10 West St,  Mary 1862 born 51 McTier St,Robert Henry 1866 born 52 McTier St [my gf], Anna Elizabeth born 28 McTier St and/or Eliza 1870 born Belfast no 3 Antrim [a civil record?].

So Robert Cunningham must have died after 1870? I have 2 records for Agnes Robinson death 1891. Any suggestions on how/where to look for a death record or gravestone?
Many thanks in advance
Cheers Steve.

Did one of the girls marry a William McCartney, there is a death 1899 of a Robert Cunningham a plasterer, informant son in law

And an Agnes, widow of Robert a plasterer at same address died 1904

YES!! Sinann you are brilliant!
Mary Cunningham married William John McCartney in April 1888 in the |Mariners Church of Ireland!
One more question please! Which graveyard do you think they may be buried in?
Thankyou again so much
Cheers
Steve

The Belfast City Cemetery Records are online at
https://dof.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialsearch/burialSearch.aspx
but a quick search of the records doesn't show any trace of either Robert or Agnes around the dates given.

Thanks for that Falkryn! I had a good look also and could not find any records.
What other cemeteries would they likely to be buried in?
One more thought - are there any Belfast newspapers that can be accessed digitally online that might have Death or Funeral notices in from that time that may give another clue? Many thanks in advance
Cheers Steve

Many thanks for all the help everyone - much appreciated!
However I still seem no closer to finding a burial record - searched Billion Graves, all Belfast council graveyards and Roots Ireland.
Is there something I am missing?
Also what graveyard would Church of Ireland folk from Shankill likely be buried in?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Not seeing Agnes on the 1901 for Hemsworth Street, but noticed a daughter, Lizzie Vincent, was present at death. Elizabeth Cunningham married a William Vincent  on 26/5/1898 at Trinity Church of Ireland, Belfast. He was a seaman. Likely census entries being:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Court_Ward/Wellwynne_Street/947402/

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Wood_Vale_Ward/Urney_Street/157713/

I trust you have realised that the Belfast Cemeteries burial search doesn't include the following:

Balmoral Cemetery
Clifton Street Graveyard
Friar's Bush Graveyard
Knock Burial Ground
Shankill Graveyard
