Need photo dated Maria Brito Portugal
« on: Friday 24 May 19 17:59 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I was wondering if someone might be able to date this photo for me. I also need the approximate age of the lady in the photo. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Photo was possibly taken in Ontario, Canada

Is this a Daguerreotype photo?

Thanks,
Patti

This is an ambrotype (on glass). This process superseded the daguerreotype.
This was in use from 1851 & into the early 60's but started to fade around 1860 when a newer process arrived.
The dress & hairstyle suggests a date of mid-late 50's but could be slightly later depending on how up to date she was.
She looks around early to mid 20's & appears married (she has a ring on her wedding finger, ambrotypes are in reverse) so someone born around 1825-35 I would say.

Thank you Jim1. Greatly appreciated. Guess from what you told me it is not who I thought it was... :'( was really hoping it was a daguerreotype. Oh well...

thank you,
Patti
