Completed Where is/was Craggy Head, Co Durham?
« on: Tuesday 03 August 04 12:34 BST (UK) »
My ggrandmother gave her place of birth in 1901 census as Craggy Head, Co Durham. She married a man from Gateshead, which suggests it is at the northern end of the county, but can anyone help me with its precise location?

Many thanks

May I suggest it might be Craghead, a place just west of Chester-le-Street, and a bit south of Gateshead?

Thanks. I think that you are right. Examining the census transcript closely, I think it may read Cragg Head, which would match your theory. The quality of the transcription isn't brilliant, which is the only excuse I have got for misreading  the entry.
